Introducing P.I.A.

Peninsula InterFaith Action

(P.I.A.)

St. Athanasius Local Organizing Committee

PIA is a federation of 25 congregations of 7 different denominations that represent over 14,000 families. These congregations work around local problems in their own communities and also cooperate among themselves throughout the Peninsula and the state of California.

The goal of each PIA group is:

  1. to surface the concerns, the problems and issues in our community.
  2. to discover and invite members of the parish and community to become involved.
  3. to build up our community through listening and healthy relationships.
  4. to search and take action on select issues of common concern.

The method by which we achieve our goals

  1. have one to one interviews with members of our parish.
  2. report on these interviews at our monthly meeting
  3. do a faith reflection on the issues that engage our community
  4. plan action to address these issues.

It is the responsibility of the wider PIA organization

  1. to consult with congregation staff and leaders to explore congregation-based community organizing.
  2. provide staff resources to train, guide, and support a Local Organizing Committee (LOC)
  3. offer leadership development opportunities to clergy and active participants in the Local Organizing Committee.
  4. support the congregation’s local organizing initiatives through the federation of PIA member congregations.
