Pastor’s Report/ Maintenance (Fr. Casey)
- Roof is finished except for a few adjustments. No dry rot found.
- ADA: Sent out about 350 letters before Christmas. Left 60 spare envelopes in the back and all were taken. $16,000 so far in responses. Goal is $666,000 and $400,000 for endowment for the next 3 years. Not expecting to go over goal much. Extra money tacked onto ADA for roof.
- Possible to get loan from diocese in advance if we go over goal.
- Lucio back in Mexico. $5000 raised for him towards his seminary education.
- Bathrooms are 2nd priority for MC. Len willing to pay for carpet in the cry room. Carpet in garage may be enough. Possibly paint walls to make it cheery. (Jerry)
- (Leonel) Obtained stage from City. 24X12. To be installed where BBQ is by Holy Friday. Cost $433 with tax. Also secured 400 chairs in fixable condition.
- February 14. Rosa heading up Valentine’s Dinner in the hall for couples.
Stewardship Committee Report (Raj)
- 2nd Annual Ministry Conference, March 21st. Purpose: to facilitate a forum for all 50 St. Athanasius ministries and to draw in more parishioners to participate
- Chosen theme: 50 Years of Service. Look at accomplishments and future plans.
- Grouping ministries into major categories so they can better represent themselves.
- Bringing Hispanic ministries into the mainstream.
- Possibly highlight certain groups in bulletin in weeks leading up to conference.
- Link to ministries available on www.stathanasius.com but still needs work.
Finance Council Report (Mary)
- Refer to handouts Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet.
- Retirement most significant expense in Q3 and Q4. $17,000/month for pastoral and $8,000/month for staff. Diocese making up for retirement that was not collected in previous years.
- Under physical plant. Replacing 2 heaters in Mike Cavera’s and Rosa’s offices.
- Forecast does not include roof expense estimated at $90,000
- Collections: $6,800/week.
- Bottom line: Projecting Loss of $62,000. Meeting PC and FC on January 27.
- Balance Sheet shows our cash on hand by July 1, 2009 will be $42,691. Compare to $163, 640 in June 2008 and $155,760 and June 2007.
Deficit Reduction- Fundraising Status
- January 27-FC and PC meeting with Bill Matthews from diocese to discuss financial situation and the possibility of getting a loan from diocese if there are sufficient pledges by the end of March.
- At every event, we should ask for donations.
- EFT best option but more work for staff. Paypal better than Parish Pay for credit card contributors. (Refer to handout.) Both require pastor to set up. Peter to send instructions to Fr. Casey and he can forward it to web designer.
- Youth are fundraising to go to LA Congress.
Parish 50th Anniversary Celebration Update
- Dinner Party: May 1st. Rio de Bono Tri booked. $50 per ticket. Start advertising soon. Suggestion to have outdoor banner. Selling tickets along with reusable grocery bags 3 weekends in a row (late March to early April). Suggested deal: Buy ticket, get a bag. Additional bags $2.60. Charge to cover cost of bags. $5?
- Marge and Nadine requesting photos and stories for booklet and slideshow.
- Marge says booklet is coming along. Suggested donation or free? Hoping to cover cost. If sponsored probably should be free since sponsors would want their advertising seen. Possibly use the bulletin publisher to print booklet.
- Outdoor Mass: May 3rd. Mike Cavera heading liturgy plans. Leo secured stage. Jenniffer and Caroline heading reception plans.
Google Groups/ Pastoral Council Blog Update
- Last year set up but almost zero use. Changed from blog to group so anytime someone posts, email sent to all members. Option not to receive or how frequent your receive email. Possibly post “cleansed” PC minutes after approved. Stathanasius@googlegroups.com
PC Guidelines Subcommittee
- No new update. Jenniffer has been out.
Sub-Committee for New Council Members
- Should start in January. Selection process begins no later than April. Peter to help.
Farewell to H.G. Fathers
- Consult with the Transition team. Theresa, Aaron, Leo to help.
Coffee and Doughnuts
- Can’t have it this weekend when we normally have it. Financial Committee will also not be able to sponsor February 1st because Mary will be out of town.
New Business
- Need to find a way to update parishioners’ contact information.
- Proposal for Easter Vigil to be bilingual. Attempted last year but started too late. This year catechumens will all be Spanish speaking. Concern about capacity.
NEXT MEETING: February 26 (Thursday)
