MEMBERS PRESENT:

Fr. Also, the ABC suggests for PC to place a paragraph or two in the bulletin a week after each PC meeting to explain the functions of the PC and inform parishioners of current important topics.

Approval of Minutes (July): Correction: New custodian’s last name is “Dacasin.” (Kevin) Problem with posting minutes a month after is that they are stale. Plan to post pre-approved preliminary minutes soon after PC meetings and officially approve them a month later. Kevin will see about posting them to blog. Group approves.

1. Status of ABC committee (Jerry Jensen)

ABC’s next quarterly meeting is in October.
Priorities: Bathroom remodel high on priority list. Want to fundraise for funds.

FC meeting meeting next Tuesday.

2. Christmas Concert (Jerry Jensen)

Third Annual Christmas Concert will be Friday, December 11, 2009 at 7:30PM.
Sponsored by PC.
Concert Sub-Committee: Jenniffer, Jose Luis, Deacon Leonel, Doris and Mabel.
Mabel will ask Jovenes Para Cristo to perform or Oscar’s Choir.
Other music groups from outside will be invited. Jerry has contacted Rajna for her Croatian Orchestra/Choir to possibly perform.
A donation basket will be passed during concert to help raise funds for the parish.
Jerry Pintar would like to have a Fundraiser Recital on January 15, 2010. Mostly solo performances and classical music. Suggested ticket price is $5. Jerry Jensen wants to try to push back the date because it is only 2 weeks after the holidays. PC suggests to have it before Lent begins. Ash Wednesday falls on February 17.

3. Pastor’s Report (Fr. Oscar)

Conference table in rectory cannot accommodate all PC members. Fr. Oscar is requesting Deacon Leonel to find an extension table that can be added to the end.
Fr. Oscar read thank you and congratulatory letter from Bishop for Installation Mass. (Bishop was not given a stipend.)
In response to a security problem in the rectory, locks to main and back doors have been changed. Too many people had the keys to the rectory. Old key can still open chapel. Keys to the rectory can be requested and holders will be logged.
September 11, 2009- Altercation with GMS principal over 6-7 automobiles parked overnight. Contract only allows up to 5 GMS vans to park overnight.
Avelino Limbo and the Wednesday evening Our Lady of Perpetual Help group is requesting to use the hall every Thursday night at 7PM for line dancing. Teacher would come to teach lessons and they would be open to all parishioners. Fun way to build community. PC suggested to have them use hall just once a month due to frequency of hall usage by other groups and activities.
Transition Team will summarize report and make them into long/short term goals.
Bought new vestments for priests. Saved money because of sponsors.
Hired new catechetical director, Victor Valdez, former catechetical director for St. Dennis in Menlo Park.
Jovenes Para Cristo being formally declared by diocese as part of the diocesan ministry to Spanish youth and young adults.

4. Planning for Upcoming Year (Kevin)

For meetings this fiscal year, PC Chairman Kevin would like to have a section of each meeting devoted to usual business but then focus on a specific topic for the rest of the meeting. We will choose focus topics for each month.
What will the focus section of a meeting look like? What are the aims?

Parishioner Involvement; Coordination with Staff.
Get agenda out ahead of time so parishioners can join the meeting if there is a topic/concern they want to speak about.
Suggestion to ask parish what is important to them and what they want PC to talk about.
Invite groups/parishioners from parish to speak about their concerns or ideas.
Pre-announce to parish.
Do the homework on focus topics before meeting. Tap in resources like the diocese, deanery, books
Led by guest (a PC-member) who will spearhead “the homework” or research for the focus topic and possibly be the contact/liaison to groups involved.
Make a change.

Kevin’s suggestions for Focus Topics:

1. Evangelization & Outreach and Education

Suggestion to have an Open House for Inactive Catholics. Tour of Church. (Peter)
North Deanary has ministry to fallen away Catholics. (Fr. Oscar.)
Fr. Oscar suggested to see if Fr. Stasys would like to be involved in this area.

2. Social Justice- Focus Topic for November. Kevin to lead.

3. Spanish/English Together

4. Finance

5. Maintenance

Suggestions and Tasks for the Year

1. Update parish registration. New Addresses/Emails. Clean up existing roll. Census in October. Perhaps a task for ABC. (Peter)

2. Possibly “Closing Jubilee Year” Celebration. Perhaps in May. Weather will be nicer than December plus holidays would be busy and bad weather. Maybe have a directory available with pictures.

3. Starting Archives- Pictures/Photos. Possibly have ABC do this. Pictures could be displayed in hall as a museum of photos. (Fr. Oscar.)

4. St. Athanasius Day- Feast of Patron Saint. Suggested Theater group to tell St. Athanasius story. (Leo) Bulletin write up of St. Athanasius. Add St. Athanasius image on bulletin. (Fr. Oscar)

5. People haven’t picked up memory books that they ordered. 6 boxes of reusable bags left. (Aaron.)

6. Guadalupe Celebration parish-wide (Leo)- Wants to share with community about the Guadalupe. Maybe have a celebration during an English Liturgy. (December 12^th)

7. We need to minister to the ministries already established. (Mildred)

8. “Year of Evangelization” theme for St. Athanasius. (Eleanor)

9. Religious life vocation to Young Adults. (Peter)
